2009-2011 ETIC/OPAS Grants

Introduction

As part of implementing the Oregon Precollege and Applied Science (OPAS) Bright Future Strategy, ETIC has implemented several grant opportunities. The most recent opportunities and the resulting grants are summarized below.

Program Grants: A Request For Proposals was issued with proposals due by September 30, 2009. The grant opportunities were:

  1. Out-of-School Time Programs for Project-Based Learning in Engineering and Applied Sciences
  2. High School Internship Program
    • Program goal is to provide summer internships in engineering and applied science to high potential students at Oregon industries and universities.
  3. Computer Science Pre-College Curriculum and Professional Development Program
    • Program goal is to expand access to computer science by providing Carnege Mellon's Computer Science for High School (CS4HS) program to high school teachers, and to develop pilot classroom curricula in support of a new discrete math curriculum at Oregon high schools.

Implementation Grants: A Request For Applications (RFA) was issued with applications due by January 15, 2010. The grant opportunities were:

  1. Support funding for middle and high schools to begin implementing the nationally renowned pre-engineering curricula of Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
  2. Support funding for high schools to implement an innovative extra curricular engineering "athletics" program called eCHAMP
